I always look forward to my wee boy stepping off the school bus at 2.30, because I just can't wait to hear all about his day.
I'll admit, most days when I ask him what he did at school he just shrugs and says "I don't know", and that's as much as I get. Some days, however, he has a story to tell me.
On Tuesday I met him from the bus, and the first thing he said to me was "Mummy, I cried today". I hate the idea of my wee man being sad at school, away from me. He continued on with his story, that after P.E when they were getting dressed he couldn't find his trousers, so he has to go for dinner in his school shorts. I think most kids would take it in their stride, but Neil's not most boys and wearing shorts in the dinner hall is not the norm, which created a big upset.
"It was ok though", he said, "because the dinner lady saw my shorts and gave me extra jelly". I think he was crying so much, at the sheer embarrassment of being seen in shorts that the let him eat his dinner in the classroom.
It turned out that one of the other wee boys in his class had put on his trousers by mistake, and the whole thing was resolved after lunch.
A few weeks ago, I came home from work and was greeted with a little bag of wet clothes. My hubby told me that Neil had an accident at school and they had changed his clothes, which was fine. It wasn't until later on that evening I was getting Neil changed and noticed he still had his own boxer shorts on. I started to wonder how his boxers had been dry if he'd had an accident.
I went out to check the bag of wet clothes to find his trousers soaking from the bottom up, a pair of soaking wet socks, and a pair of wet P.E shorts, so I asked Neil what had happened.
He casually replied "I got in to the toilet". Wait..... WHAT?!?
I asked him what he meant, and he said again," I got in to the toilet, why is there water in the bottom of a toilet anyway?". Of course I had allsorts of questions, how did this come about, why did he thing it would be a good idea to get in to the toilet?
He told me that he just stepped in, but later changed his story and said that the cleaner had mopped the floor but did not put up a sign to say the floor was wet, so he slipped and fell feet first in to the toilet bowl.
Sometime I wonder where he gets his stories from. I don't think we'll ever know what really went on in that toilet cubical on that day, but it sure makes a funny story to tell him when he's 18.
I love reading all of your comments and getting to interact with all my readers so pop a comment in the section below and lets chit chat.
YOu can only imagine what adventure he got himself into =P

ReplyDeleteOh dear, that did make me chuckle. My son never tells me anything (he's only 3) but his imagination already runs wild with stories of things that never really happen #pocolo
ReplyDeleteThat is really funny!! I wonder if he did it for a bet?! I do love how kids come home and say 'don't know' Grace used to do that all the time. Thank you for linking to PoCoLo - hope to see you again :) x
