Ozeri Digital Pedometer review

Anyone that reads my blog regularly may know that I have been talking a lot about getting fit and healthy this year. It's one of those things that I keep stopping and starting, but I really need to do something about my waistline, which is forever growing and growing.

When I moved to Northern Ireland I was a size 10, I'm now a size 14. I put most of this down to the fact that I started working in a tea room, and we baked our own delicious goodies every day. A good baker has to sample her good before she serves it to anyone, of course! And so, after a year or two of 'sampling' my yummy goodies every working day, it's only natural I've spread out a little bit.

I decided to take up walking, as I live in a beautiful area and have lots of nice scenic routes that I can walk. I downloaded a pedometer app on to my phone, which was ok, but I couldn't step count all day as my phone usually needs charging when I get home from work. I often questioned the accuracy of the app too as sometimes I would count my steps and it wouldn't match.

I decided to get a proper pedometer and give it a go.

I got a Ozeri 4x3motion Digital Pedometer in a bright yellow colour.

It came well packaged, and I love the colour. It's so bright and funky looking.

It comes with a neck strap and a tiny screwdriver for the battery compartment. It comes pre fitted with batteries, and after a week of use the batteries are showing no signs of faltering, but it is handy that they supply this, for when the need to change the batteries does arise.

The unit itself is very small and thin and fits perfectly in my thumb and finger. It has a non slip feel, and has a grip around the middle so really easy to grip. It has a backlight too, which will be handy in the colder months when it's darker in the evenings. I love the size, it fits perfectly in to the pocket of my skinny jeans and I can forget about it, once it is in my pocket I can't even feel it there.

It has a tri-axis sensor which means it can be held in any direction and still pick up your steps, unlike some other pedometers. It works just as well bouncing around in my handbag as it does in my pocket, or on the neck strap. I have tried counting my steps a few times, holding the pedometer in different ways and putting it in different pockets, and everytime the pedometer has matched what I counted.

It was very easy to set up when it arrived. I had to input the date and time, my weight and my stride length so it could accurately measure my steps and calculate calories burned etc.

I popped it in my pocket on the first day and was surprised how little I actually walk on a normal day. NHS recommend trying to walk 10,000 steps a day for a healthy active lifestyle. On my first day I walked 2847! I was shocked, I thought I was much more active than that, chasing after 2 kids all day. One of the things I like about the pedometer is that it stores your days reading for a week, so I've started challenging myself to beat my previous days. Realising how little I actually move during the day has inspired me to do more activities and walk more.

I haven't hit the 10,000 in one day yet, but today I have walked 6947, so I'm getting better. The pedometer calculates how many calories I have burned too, so I know how much cake I can eat when I get home. I'm just kidding! If you are curious as to how far you walk on an average day, this pedometer will tell you that too. I have walked a total of 2.6 miles today.

I'm interested to see how much I walk on a working day vs a non working day. I've actually been off work for a few days while I have been using this but I will be wearing it to work tomorrow to see if there is much difference.

I'm very impressed, it seems really well made, and I love being able to just put it in my pocket and forget about it. It's great to have something that can be carried about all day without worrying about the battery dying, and I definitely find it motivates me to do better as I'm constantly checking my steps to try and improve on the previous days.

The Ozeri Digital Pedometer is available on amazon for £15.95.

    1. Haha, why else would you burn calories if not to allow ourselves to consume more calories? I love cake!
