Review: The Rockabilly Kids Toothbrush

Caitlin has reached that age where she has become little miss independent, and wants to do everything for herself. She starts school next week, she's a 'big girl' now, so it's only natural for her to want a little bit of independence.

One of the new things she likes to do all for herself is brushing her teeth. I can't complain about this at all! As a kid I didn't have the best dental hygiene, and I'm paying for it now, so I'm making sure the kids take good care of their teeth from a young age. I still brush Neil's teeth for him, he hates it and wouldn't do it himself if I didn't help. Caitlin is exactly opposite, and would brush her teeth at regular times throughout the day if she could, and usually she brushes her own teeth without a prompt from me.

Of course with new found independence comes a few mishaps. Because she often does her own teeth without any help from me, I often go in to the bathroom a little later to find her toothbrush face down at the back of the sink, or even worse, face down on the floor. I'm constantly telling her to make sure she puts it back in the toothbrush holder when she's done, although if research is to be belived, it's probably no better off in the holder!

The NSF (National Science Foundation) in USA rated the average home toothbrush holder to be the 3rd dirtiest place in the house. I must admit, I clean my bathroom every day, give the sink and taps a wipe, but I quite often don't touch the toothbrush holder! I maybe wash it down once a fortnight, I didn't think for a second it would harbour so many germs. After reading the research, it makes me feel a bit queezy, not exactly the place you want to keep your toothbrush, right?

So when we were sent 'The Rockabilly Kids' toothbrush, we couldn't wait to try it out.

The Rockabilly Kids toothbrush is a brand new type of toothbrush that you can't knock down. It's weighted bottom design means that the toothbrush will always straighten itself up, where ever it is placed. This means it can stand independently without the needs for a rotten old toothbrush holder, and will straighten itself upright whenever your kids just throw their toothbrush down in any old shape.

There are 6 designs to choose from. We chose 'Chef Cheryl' because it's pink, and Caitlin loves to bake, so the design was perfect for her.

The toothbrush comes with 3 spare heads, which I was really impressed with. It's easy enough to change the heads too, Caitlin could easily do it herself which is great because it gives her another bit of independence.

First impressions of the toothbrush were that it felt very sturdy. I was a bit worried when holding the box that it might be a bit heavy but it actually feels really nice to hold. Caitlin has quite dainty hands but it is the perfect size for her.

The kids gave it a thorough inspection, and they both had great fun trying (and failing miserably, might I add) to knock it down.

It is made from a nice shiny plastic and feels really good quality. I was a little concerned that when the toothbrush got wet it may not be able to stand up on the shiny bathroom surfaces properly, but I needn't have worried, it didn't matter what we tried the toothbrush always stood back upright.

The brush itself has very soft bristles, which are nice and gentle on Caitlin's gums.

Caitlin has been using it for a week now, it really adds a bit of fun to brushing, and every time she brushes her teeth she tries to outsmart the toothbrush, and finds it hilarious that it always bobs back up.

From a parents point of view I'm impressed too. I usually pay £2 a tooth brush for the kids, and you should replace every 3 months witch would total £8 a year. The actual total for us so far is higher because we end up replacing hers probably once a month due to hers being found on the floor so often. The Rockabilly Kids toothbrush is currently £6.99 in boots, and comes with a years worth of brush heads, so it's actually cheaper! So couple the good value with the hygiene and fun factor and I would definitely recommend this to other parents!

We have already ordered 'Astronaut Andy' for Neil because he keeps trying to steal Caitlin's. He's excited for his to arrive. I'm hoping that having the fun toothbrush might encourage him to brush his own teeth, which would be fantastic! I'll keep you posted on how we get on with that.

Overall, 'The Rockabilly Kids' toothbrush gets a big thumbs up from us!

  1. Normally don't comment on much here but have to say this is a class product when I saw it I thought it was going to be around 15 quid or so to buy one for our little one and would of been happy enough to pay that for it. Would not at all hesitate to recommend this to anyone.

  2. I have to admit that I put the kids' toothbrushes through the dishwasher with reasonable regularity - mainly for the reasons you've mentioned . . . toothbrush facedown on the bathroom floor *bleurgh*
This toothbrush looks like a fantastic product - we're looking forward to trying it out ourselves!

  6. This toothbrush is a good idea. My daughter often does not put her brush back in the holder and leaves it next to the sink so I will certainly look out for this.
