Word of the Week - Messy

My first ever word of the week is:

Do you ever look around and wonder what happened to your nice clean home? I'm sure you do, if you have children!

Well, in my house, the children are not the main problem.
"Oh yes! I have to pick up after my husband all of the time too!", I hear you cry. Well, my husband is not the problem in my house either. It's all down to me, I'm the slob.

I know I'm a bit lazy when it comes to housework, I always have been. Tonight though, I've just looked around the house and thought wtf, when did we start living in such squalor? I was off work for three days in a row this week, which would have given me ample time to get the house in order and still have plenty of time to play with the kids, but I'll be honest and say I did f*** all.

Coming home from work tonight, the kids decided they wanted to start taking videos, so I had my pad out and they were making vlogs to go on youtube, showing their 'viewers' around the house. They were so excited to show me their videos, but all I could see when I watched them back was my mess everywhere. My shoes, just dumped at the side of the sofa, another pair of my shoes in front of the tv unit, my work clothes in a heap on my bedroom floor, my crumbs all over the bench, I'm like a teenager!

I often shout at the kids because I'll spend an afternoon tidying their room, and within 2/3 days there are toys, and clothes and bits of paper everywhere. But what can I expect, when they have me as an example.

Most parents I know spend a fair amount of time chasing their children around, picking up after them. I'm not like that. I favour the, 'let them have their toys everywhere, I'll clean up when they go to bed' approach, which is all well and good until they actually go to bed and I look around at the little bomb site that is my home.

Some nights I utter those dreaded words, "I will do it when I get up". This is not wise people! You will always regret it in the morning!

I'm taking a vow from today that I'm going to try and be less messy, tidy up after myself a bit more, put my shoes away and all that jazz, and hopefully set a better example for my messy children too!

Hope you've all had a good, tidy week!

  1. Ha! I know this all too well! My kids have this gloriously irritating habit of just leaving things at their butts assuming Muggles Mummy will pick up after them. I can feel a strike coming on! lol Happy Easter!! #WotW

  2. Ah, now I tidy up throughout the day. If they've clearly abandoned a toy, I move it! To be fair, this means that they clear up quite well themselves, at just 4 & 1! My husband is very tidy, so never have to clear up after him! I like organised mess only! Thanks for sharing with #WotW x

  5. I think that everyone in my household donates to the mess in our house. It is really hard to tidy up esp when they are at home in a spring break. I dread the 1st day after the holidays cuz its just me a ton of cleaning. #wotw
