Soundtrack to my week 21/03/14

I always used to pride myself on the fact that I had a pretty wide and varied taste in music. I enjoy listening to music across most genres, and I always had music on.

I was one of those annoying teenagers who had their Ipod turned up to full on the bus, and used to annoy the hell out of my Mam by constantly flicking through the music channels until I found a song I liked, she would always shout "Can you not just pick a bloody channel and stay on it"

Things changed a little when Neil was born. Music channels were replaced with Cbeebies, and at night I was listening to the baby monitor instead of the radio. I stopped listening to my Ipod when I went out walking because I liked to hear Neil babbling away in the pram.

I've started listening to music a lot more now, especially since discovering music streaming services. I tried spotify for a month or 2 which was £9.99 a month, and then moved to Google Music which was only £7.99 a month when I signed up. I think most services have free versions too, but when you pay you can download playlists and listen to them offline, which is great for me as I like listening to music when I'm travelling without the kids.

So anyway, I am waffling on a bit, I thought it would be a good idea to do a regular post about the music I'm loving at the moment. I apologise in advance, some of it will be a bit random. When you search for music on Google music, they also show you a page of related artists, and I often get carried away clicking on different bands and end up thinking "how did I end up here?"

My songs of this week are:

Arctic Monkeys - Mardy Bum
This is probably my favourite Arctic Monkeys song, I don't necessarily think it's their best but it's definitely my favourite. When they first came out there was a lot of hype around them, and I didn't think much of them. We were at Leeds Festival in 2006, and were waiting for Muse to come on the main stage, we had a good spot and didn't want to move, so we had to put up with AM for an hour. After about 10 minutes I was hooked, and this was the song I fell in love with. I've liked them ever since, and always come back to this song.

Sam Smith - Money on my Mind
I love this guys voice!
I will admit, when I first heard it I did not expect him to look the way he does! I wasn't keen on the song at first but now I can't stop listening to it, I love the beat but his voice is just something else!

Pharrell Williams - Happy
Ok, I know this song is a bit overplayed, you literally cannot escape it! But I like it, because the kids like it. They both loved the Despicable Me movies, and when ever this song comes on Caitlin sings along and we all have a little dance and a bit of fun, so I have to add it in to my songs of the week.

That's my 3 songs for this week. I'd like to make a regular thing of this, but I'm not going to commit to every week just yet, I'll see how I feel!

What are you listening to this week?

    1. Oh no, how do you cope with that? I'm lucky to say enither of mine really got in to dinosaur train. Caitlin does spend a lot of her time listening to songs from My Little Pony episodes on youtube, but I actually quite like them and often find myself singing along!
