Half term fun outdoors!

Woke up with a real feeling of cabin fever this morning. Half term is coming to a close for us as N is back to school on Thursday, and we've been cooped up in the house for the past few days. The weather hasn't helped, I was actually forgetting that there was even such a thing as sun.

There's only so much crafts you can do in a week, and I was taking a stand today, we were going out, whatever the weather. Luckily for us, the weather was nice.

There's no park in our village. Well, I lie, there's a little park with some swings, some scaffolding painted blue aka a climbing frame, and smashed bottles everywhere. The place is a dirthole, so we stay clear of it.
There's a park about a mile out of the village, but we don't get to it often as it's a long walk there and back for two young kids, so going there is a real treat.

I thought we should make the most of the nice weather and take the kids for a ride on the bike trailer we got last year. It hasn't seen much use since we got it, but it's a great wee thing for taking the kids out and about in.

So teddy bears in tow, we packed up and headed for the park. The kids absolutely love being in the trailer. It's a great way of getting them from A to B without cries of 'my legs are sore' or 'carrrrryyyyy meeeeeee'. They just relax and take in the scenery whil mummy peddles for dear life. It didn't help today that the lane we usually take was like a scene from glastonbury and my wheels were sinking deep in to the mud.

We made it in one piece and stopped at the picnic area for a well deserved snack in the sunshine before they both ran off like maniacs toward the park. We stayed at the park for about an hour and neither of them stopped for a breath once. I don't know where they get there energy from sometimes.

February half term can be a difficult one, because it's so cold and drab, and your funds are usually drained from Christmas. I've spent most of the week trying to come up with fun and exciting ways to spend the days, but really something as simple as just heading out to the park has been one of our best days of the holidays. The kids had great fun messing about, they don't care that it's a bit cold, and it's a great way of getting rid of some of that  excess energy that has been building up after a few days indoors.

Have you been having outdoor fun over the half term? I'd love to hear what you've been up to, please leave a comment! Thanks for reading x

  1. Love the look of that trailer! Time in the park is always a fab winner with kids (and therefore parents) :-)
