A country walk

It was a beautiful day today, and we had to make the most of it.

I had been getting the sense of Cabin Fever, after having to spend the whole of Friday cooped up in the house. We were plagued with the sickness bug during the night, and had to miss school/ work, and just spent the day lounging around the house feeling totally out of it. Thank goodness we all woke up this morning feeling miles better than yesterday. I was determined we were getting out of the house at some point in the day!

We had a quiet morning just pottering about the house, I tried to catch up on yesterdays housework while the kids watched some tv.

After lunch I decided we were going out for a walk to get some fresh air. Cue a total meltdown from Neil. He did not want to go out, he hates going out, apparently. He hid under a blanket for ten minutes refusing to speak or get dressed, which is generally what happens when you decide on a last minute outing. It took us a while be we eventually coaxed him out of the house, and it was soon forgotten once we got going.
 
We are lucky that we live in a large village, but are just minutes walk from beautiful countryside.  We headed off down a country lane, and through a little wooden gate down to a little river.

The kids picked some sticks and pretended to fish for a little while, before seeing how far they could throw them in to the water and watching them float away. Neil's fishing rod was considerably larger than Caitlin's.


We've only walked this way a few times since we moved to the village. I think we may start coming here more often as the kids really enjoyed themselves, and it's such a beautiful place.


Alongside the river there is a little pathway. Well, it's not really a path, it's just grass that has been flattened down by people constantly walking over it. We decided to go for a wee dander down and see what we could find. Caitlin stopped along the way to pick some flowers for her collection (she doesn't actually have a flower collection but loves putting random things in her pocket when we are out and about).


The little path was quite difficult to walk at some times, there were a few places where I thought I was going to tumble down in to the river, but fortunately that did not happen. We decided instead of turning round and heading back up the same way, we would jump over in to the field and walk back that way as it would be quicker. Neil lifted the kids over the bushes and then climbed over himself, but I couldn't get over, and so was stuck walking back along the path.

I did eventually find somewhere I could climb and rejoined everyone in the field. For some reason, Neil and Daddy decided to lie down, and were quickly joined by Caitlin. I may have taken part too, if the grass didn't spell of manure! That is one thing I cannot get used to, coming from the city to the countryside!

After rolling about in Manure for a while, we headed for the gate so we could make out journey back up the lane towards home.
Neil was terrified of climbing the gate, clinging to his Daddy for dear life, Caitlin wasn't so bothered.


On the way home, we stopped to pick berries. Not the edible kind, rather berries to throw at each other. This was another opportunity for Caitlin to add to her 'collection'.


When we got home the kids played outside on the Trampoline for a little while,  before relaxing with a milkshake in the house.

Caitlin decided she was going to use her collection to make nature picture.


Not bad, she managed to turn a pocket full of berries and flowers in to something!

We really enjoyed our little walk. It is starting to feel properly like spring now and the sunshine was quite warm when you were out of the breeze. Hopefully it stays nice for the rest of the weekend so we can maybe get out again tomorrow.
