Sunday afternoon

Sundays in our house are usually pretty quiet. Today was no exception.

My wee man, N is currently obsessed with Minecraft, so we had a bit of a Minecraft session this morning. I didn't mention in my first post but my son is awaiting a diagnosis of ASD, and when he takes an interest in something, he really goes for it! He eats, sleeps and breathes Minecraft at the moment. We spent most of the morning watching videos of other people playing Minecraft on Youtube, which he seems to prefer more than actually playing it.

After lunch, I asked the kids if they fancied a walk down to the beach, to get us out of the house for a while. My wee lady, C, jumped at the chance, and was running up the stairs to get her boots on before I'd even finished speaking.
N on the other hand wasn't so in to the idea. As a general rule, impromptu trips are out of the question with him, he likes to know in advance what's going on. About 5 minutes after I'd suggested going out, he put down his pad and announced "I think I'd like to go to the beach now".

So we booted up and left for the beach.
I should mention that we live in a little coastal village, and the beach is about 5 minutes walk from our house. One of the perks of living in this area is there's so many beautiful places to explore. As much as I love my home city, a walk in the park was about as scenic as you could get without access to transport, and as nice as the parks in Newcastle were, there would always be someone lurking around with a can of Special Brew in hand to ruin the charm.
I have definitely come to appreciate the views out here.
 

When we got down to the beach, N & C ran off to explore and see if they could find any shells or nicely coloured rocks.


We were the only people on the beach so the kids got to run riot for half an hour. They gathered up sticks and old drift wood to build a pretend camp-fire. C collected up some stones to bring home, but then lost them minutes later. They then decided they were investigators, assigned to the case of the missing stones.



We went for a little walk around the quays before heading home, as the kids were complaining they were cold.
We finished off the afternoon with a delicious hot chocolate and mallows in the house, which you really can't beat on a cold day like this.
 It was nice to get out for a while, especially since we've had a solid block of rain for the last 2 weeks.
